About

In this final installment of a two-year, six-part series of symposia on themes of supporting UCSF faculty at a time of healthcare transformation and accelerating change affecting academic medical institutions, the School of Medicine Faculty Council concludes with a full faculty meeting on reclaiming joy and meaning in academic medicine.

Guest speakers will trace the academic physician’s journey from altruism to disillusionment, offer a path forward by introducing new paradigms for defining meaningfulness in academic medicine, and share practical advice for promoting and sustaining meaningful, joyful careers in academic medicine. A panel of UCSF colleagues will share their inspiring stories of how their contributions as academic faculty have made impactful change and brought professional and personal fulfillment. To conclude, a roundtable of senior campus and Health leaders will reflect on their own careers and discuss the ways in which UCSF might evolve to lead in attracting, retaining, and supporting the best talent to grow and sustain flourishing faculty careers in academic medicine.

Please join us for this special 2-hour symposium that will inform and inspire – and that aims to reignite and reinvigorate our passion for and commitment to academic medicine.

This meeting is sponsored by the UCSF School of Medicine Faculty Council, in partnership with PERC (UCSF Physicians for Engagement, Representation, and bidirectional Communication), the Academic Senate Committee on Faculty Welfare, the Academic Senate Clinical Affairs Committee, and the UCSF Physician Experience Council.
